After showing his Couture Spring/Summer 2010 collection during Paris Fashion Week in January, designer Georges Chakra rushed to New York, to debut his third “Edition by Georges Chakra” Fall/Winter 2010 ready to wear collection. The show took place on Saturday February 13, 2010 in The Tents at Bryant Park during New York Fashion Week.
Inspired by Argentinean painter and sculptor Lucio Fontana, who is known for his lacerated canvases, Chakra applied a similar look to the dresses, with sharp, asymmetrically cut necklines and thin panels of netting in both the front and back. “The expression of Fontana’s slashed canvas {mosimage}symbolizes the breakthrough to a woman’s infinite soul” stated Chakra “This is the foundation and the spirit of my collection.”
The end result was seen in a display of 42 luxurious contemporary silhouettes characterized by an everlasting sense of uniqueness featuring couture detailing and a distinctive touch.
Mixing feminine and masculine elements in a single dress, pairing hard and soft looks as well as introducing innovative fabrics, Chakra remained faithful to the sophisticated and glamorous woman with plunging backs, a signature look in both his couture and ready to wear labels.
His winter palette was predominantly black, punctuated with beige, red and navy blue.
“Creating new artistic expressions is my aspiration for every collection. This season the curved {mosimage}abstraction and strong lines articulated my fall-winter 2010 collection” concluded Chakra.
Miss Jay Alexander from America’s Next Top Model, Alex McCord from The Real Housewives of New York, Joumana Kidd from Basketball Wives TV series, Rochelle Aytes from Left for Dead in addition to a large crowd gave the designer a well deserved ovation at the end of his show
